The Hunters (2013): Protectors of Fairytale Artifacts

Directed by Nisha Ganatra, based on the graphic novel by Joshua Williamson, The Hunters (2013) has the telltale look and feel of a made-for-TV movie. Produced for the Hallmark Channel, the film is a decent effort for what it is. The story concerns two brothers, who find out they are descended from a long line of "Hunters", a Secret Society of scientist adventurers that find and protect ancient mythological artifacts lest they fall into evil hands. Much of the plot line centers around fairytale objects, like Cinderella's glass slipper and the magic mirror from the Snow White story. From the jungle to the fictional Boston Metroploitan Museum, the script stays implausible yet entertaining. The limited budget is put to good use. The cast does a fine job all-around, including Robbie Amell, Michelle Forbes, Keenan Tracey, Victor Garber and Alexa Vega.
